I never thought we would come back from an island vacation without the necessity of a plane. A true island vacation where there is so much to do. Four-wheel driving, snorkelling and hiking, to name only a few of the many activities, make Tangalooma Resort a magnet for families with teenagers.
“Great for kids, great for families,”
were the words of Sam, on holiday with her kids, about the Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island
It can be tricky to decide on a destination when going on vacation with teenagers. If you want to avoid a teen scene, choose a holiday venue with lots of fun activities. Active teenagers mean healthy, happy teens.
The Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island is the perfect place to keep the whole family happy. The resort offers a wide variety of activities for the kids and adults alike, ensuring to keep their ever-present boredom at bay. These activities range from educational eco-activities like Pelican feeding to a little more adventurous, like a Sea Scooter Safari and Quad Bike Tours.
Otherwise, bring your 4WD and explore the whole island. Moreton Island itself has lots of places to visit. It’s a short drive from the resort to the desert or the wrecks, where you can snorkel or visit the Lighthouse. Then, drive to North Point and take a refreshing dip in the Champagne Pools.
Moreton Island is a National Park and will surprise you with a genuine, relaxed island feeling. It is a natural playground for kids of all ages.
Sign up for the Whale Watching Day Cruises, from where you can watch the annual migration of the fifth largest species in the entire world. These migrations take place between June And October every year.
With the abundance of activities to do at the Tangalooma Island Resort and your teenagers are old enough to do most, why not leave the what-to-do-for-the-day decision making up to them?
If lying on the beach with a few cocktails is all you ever dreamed of, go ahead because you can trust Tangalooma Resort to keep them busy. So it is the perfect time to book in for a massage at the Massage Hut Beauty Room or join the morning Vinyasa session.
The resort offers many adventure activities on land and water, like clear bottom kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, catamaran, and stand-up paddleboard hire. Parasailing, Helicopter Scenic Flights and Segway tours are also on the arm’s length list of activities to choose from. Perfect for teenagers on the loose.
The wild dolphin feeding is unique to Tangalooma Resort. These peaceful, friendly animals are wild and, nevertheless, like to take fish from your hand. It is an honour to take part in these feedings. Dolphin feeding is included for resort guests. So make sure you don’t miss out.
Tangalooma Resort is EarthCheck accredited. EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. The resort’s Marine Education and Conservation Centre offers lots of free activities for the less adventurous teens like the Old Whaling Station Tour, Kookaburra feeding, Pelican Feeding and Sea-Bird Talk.
Moreton Island is only 40 km offshore from Brisbane, QLD. And, for kids, just getting there could prove to be a short 75-minute adventure. Ferries leave from Whyte Island to the Tangalooma Wrecks daily.
Then, of course, we have to talk about food, and there are quite a few ways to keep hungry teens laughing. One option is to have a barbeque on one of the complimentary gas operated hotplates. In addition, the resort shop caters for all your bbq needs, including meat, snacks and utensils.
And if the kids feel like staying in for the evening, they can order pizza to the room or villa. Or have dinner at one of the restaurants at the resort. Tangalooma Resort offers a wide variety of options, from Beach BBQ Bistro style lunches to Chinese or Japanese restaurants.
“I don’t think people know what it’s like here”
Suzanne, a Tangalooma Resort guest, rightly said when I passed them while they were deciding which of the many activities she and her teenage daughter would do next.
“Tangalooma, life’s better uncomplicated.”
